A Texas native, Bonnie Feaster Chapa has used the great state in which she was raised as inspiration for her art.  Mostly a self-taught artist, Bonnie works primarily in acrylics and digital photo manipulation to create images, that even to her, seem to overflow with more color than she first envisioned in her mind.

How it starts:  “Not all things come to me right off the bat when I see it.  It has to sit in my mind for awhile and when it does, it becomes more that what it was at first and even I go back to the original image and wonder where all THAT came from.”

Influence:  “Form, function, color, symmetry and most of all the feeling that art gives you was what led me down the artistic path.  When I can look at a piece of art and it takes me “there” that is interesting.  When you want to crawl up in it and live there, that is profound.  Like Monet, Degas, Renoir, Da Vinci—and of all people, Dr. Seuss and his whimsical world.”

Vision:  “I see bold color past the lens of the camera. Color is my thing.  The brighter the color, the louder the music that comes from the image.  The picture is just the foundation for what I see when I take the picture.  Knowing what I see in my head in my way, consumes me to create it until that vision is there.  Sometimes the vision takes on a different perspective when I am done, but, in all reality, I am never “done” with a piece.  The music that color and shape create are always playing in the background.  It’s hard to silence and still a bright yellow dancing around with green and blue.”

Interests:  “Science, Physics, Typography, Biology, Nature, Culture, Sociology, Psychology, and of course many, many art mediums.  If I had to boil it down, I’m a nerdy eclectic colorful idea thinker upper.  My mind never stops taking notes and cataloging things.”
