This was kinda cool to wake up to!
I decided that in 2015, in order to better understand my art for myself that I would enter some competitions, something that scares the hell out of me, but – #1, do what scares you and #2, the opportunity for me to learn & assess how my work compares to my peers is valuable.
Recently, and purely coincidental to my goal, I was invited to enter a juried show at the Brazos Valley Art League in College Station. I will find out if I am even accepted into their Jan 2015 show, later this month. But, until then, I see this competition all the time at Light Space and Time below at the link. They are pretty darn reputable. I have been watching them for about 2 years now. So, true to my usual self, 2015 isn’t even here yet and I couldn’t wait, so I entered 2 competitions. Call me crazy.
This morning I checked my email for the Light Space and Time Gallery entries to be announced today, NEVER ever expecting to see what I saw. 630 entries, 19 countries, 38 states – and 2 out of my 5 entries got Special Recognition, back to back in 14th and 15th place. “Cracked Beauty” and “I’m A Huge Fan”.
What you say? Yes! I had to look at it several times to believe it! I stuck my neck out and I’m pretty happy with the results for a first timer.
Here we are a week into 2014 and I sit with some pretty lofty goals for this year and I ask myself, “Bonnie, are you going to sink, swim or soar?” Safe to bet, my answer is the latter and I plan on doing it with lots of gusto.
As I looked at this picture and worked on it, the gap between the reflection of the trees (those leaves are the river rocks below the surface) and the side of the bank where the ladder is just seemed to get deeper and deeper. Almost as if you could step off that ladder and make a choice. The obvious is that there is water there, but what a beautiful sky. Instead of swimming, why not fly?
As we stand on the edge of the river bank of life ready to make a move, sometimes we have a tendency to hesitate. If you hesitate too long, you never know what you miss out on, so jump! Jump and soar as far as your wings will take you.
Here’s to a great year for us all! 2014, bring it on!
